The school aims to provide high quality holistic education with a focus on students as individuals.
We have a fully operational Student Council that meets throughout the year to discuss issues and ideas to improve the school. There are two councils within the Student Council; one for our Year 7 and one for Years 8 and 9. The students are nominated and elected by their peers.
The current Year 8 and 9 Council Chairman is Ojas Batra from Year 8. He enjoys playing cricket and rugby and also very keen on Drama. In Term 2 he performed in our school production, Bugsy Malone
As a result of Student Council discussions and ideas, we are planning to introduce a House System next year. Break times will also be changing. There have been requests for more outdoor seating which has been provided already and more have been ordered for September. The Student Council has also been influential in improving the cafeteria menu. Council members were also consulted with and involved in organising events such as the National Day Celebrations and International Day.
The Student Council works with the staff to make the school a happier learning environment for everyone. When asked how happy students are at Al Bateen Secondary School some of the responses were, as follows:
“I have enjoyed the first term at Al Bateen School, in particular English, Art, ICT and Music. I have enjoyed PE and the CAS activities and I am looking forward to the Ski trip and F1 competition.”
“The school itself is mind blowing.”
“I love the design of the oasis and the fact that the energy it uses comes from the solar panels.”
“We enjoy all our subjects namely Music, PE, English, Maths and Science. My most memorable lessons are conducting an electrical circuit experiment in Science, writing my own novel in English and learning to compose my own songs in Music. Swimming is also a highlight.”
“The teacher makes it fun to study with group work which is very interactive.”
Students have commented about what they have learnt and the skills they have developed: ‘We have learnt more about the UAE’, ‘how to play rugby and netball’, and ‘to play a musical instrument’.
