As a Languages department, our vision
entails that all students at Al Bateen School will enjoy learning and become proficient
in a language other than English and Arabic. We seek to encourage
individuality; foster respect for difference and value learning from others
within an international community school. We strive to inspire and support all
students in achieving their individual potential. The aim is to provide high quality
languages programmes which engage learners and continue into higher levels of
language proficiency, equipping students with the intercultural skills
necessary to compete in a global economy and participate in a global society.
Lower School Programme of Study for French and Spanish:
Year 7: Basics, self-introduction, where I live , Family , Pets,
Descriptions, School , Opinions /Reasons
Grammar: genders, adjectives and present tense
Year 8: Hobbies, Holidays, Food and drinks
Grammar: three tenses (past, present and near future), negatives
Year 9: Media, Health, Jobs
past, present ,future and imperfect tenses, more complex structures
Middle school / IGCSE Topics of Study:
Home and abroad, Education and
Employment, House, Home and Daily Routines, The Modern world and the Environment,
Social activities, Fitness and Health.
All of our students at Al Bateen are encouraged
to develop their native language and practice their mother tongue at home.
There are opportunities for students to be entered for an IGCSE examination in
their mother-tongue when applicable.
