Business Studies takes students on journey through the
economic world, discovering companies and individuals who have shaped its
ever-changing landscape. Students will learn about how businesses are started,
why they change over time, how they market themselves, what strategies they use
to succeed and how to measure their success. IGCSE Business Studies and IB
Business & Management offer an exciting opportunity to develop students'
professional skills and their understanding of commerce in the 21st century.
This subject is offered to students in Years 10 and 11, should the choose to take it as an IGCSE subject.
IGCSE Business Studies begins with studying the business environment,
where students learn about the political, economic, socio-environmental and
technological factors which determine how a business operates.
Students move on to look at human resources, i.e. how
organisations structure themselves, how they recruit, motivate and develop
their workforce and how they communicate within an ever more digital and global
Accounting & Finance is the study of business
economics, including everything from cash-flow forecasts and break-even
analysis, to profit and loss accounts and balance sheets.
Marketing incorporates the strategies used by businesses
to become more successful in the marketplace, such as: pricing, promotion,
placing, product design, market research and market segmentation.
In Production, students consider the operational
strategies used by organisations to gain greater efficiencies, economies of scale
and increased productivity. Total Quality Management, Kaizen and Just-In-Time
production are among the methods students will evaluate in their quest to build
a commanding knowledge of the business world.
