teaching of Art and Design at Al Bateen aims to promote an understanding of the
methodologies and techniques that relate process to product in making
art. This cause and effect relationship in procedural knowledge, combined
with a greater emphasis on understanding art through Art history and how Art
functions in a variety cultural and historical contexts, will develop rich,
truly independent and creative students.
School Art curriculum is divided into 9 holistic projects which have been
designed inspire the students to engage with the subject and improve technical
abilities in both process and research. Each lesson is divided into two
parts. Students are encouraged to engage with Art history, compare and
contrast artists and Art movements and develop an understanding of how
different cultures affect and use art in society. The second part of the
lesson encourages students to explore and develop techniques in making art
pieces. Painting and drawing, printmaking, sculpture, alternative and digital
media manipulation are just a few of the skills we cover.
Middle School curriculum follows the British GCSE approach to teaching Art and
Design, building on the foundations laid by the lower school curriculum. As
a two year course students are required to complete 2 units for assessment:
Unit 1: Personal Portfolio in Art and Design 12
